Thanksgiving Meal Ideas 2020

I’ve gathered some recipes to help with planning for your Thanksgiving Meal this year. There some recipes for appetizers, vegetables, side dishes, 2 turkey recipes, homemade breads and then three dessert ideas. Hope this helps! You can also look at the Thanksgiving Meal Ideas I posted from 2018 or last year’s ideas by clicking on Thanksgiving Meal Ideas 2019.

Appetizers

Three recipes are listed to warm you up for the big meal. The first one is a super easy to make dip is made with just three ingredients. Softened cream cheese is beaten with a jar of marshmallow crème and vanilla until smooth. The second appetizer looks fancy but is actually very easy to make. Cream cheese, mayo, sour cream and garlic are mixed in a large bowl. Then spinach is stirred in before adding artichokes, mozzarella and Parmesan. Next a wheel of brie is placed in the center of a puff pastry sheet and then the spinach mixture is spread on top of the cheese the puff pastry. The puff pastry is closed and baked.  A third appetizer is an easy to make dip recipe that cooks in a mini slow cooker. Canned refried beans are mixed with picanté sauce, shredded cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, chili powder and cumin. Tortilla chips and salsa are served with the finished dip.

Vegetables

Three vegetable options are listed below. Corn on the cob is spread with a mixture of butter and seasonings, and then baked in a foil packet in the oven. For the second recipe thinly slice potatoes are staggered in a baking dish with onions. Then a homemade cheese sauce is poured over the potatoes and onions. Next the dish is covered in foil and baked. The third recipe is an easy to make vegetable side dish that comes together quickly. Chopped potatoes and onions are mixed with baby carrots and olive oil and seasonings. Next the vegetables are roasted in the oven.

Side Dishes

For the first recipe mushrooms are quartered. Then melted butter, minced garlic, salt and pepper are stirred in. Next in a casserole dish uncooked rice is mixed with broth and seasoning. Then the mushroom mixture is spread on top of the rice. Olive oil is drizzled on and the pan is baked until the mushrooms are golden and the rice is cooked. The second recipe is also a rice recipe that comes together quickly, but has a hearty taste. Sliced mushrooms and rice cook in a skillet until golden. Then beef broth, dried onions, au jus gravy mix and seasonings are added. Next, the mixture is brought to a boil and then cooked until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Don’t forget about stuffing recipes!

Bread

All four of the bread recipes I included can be made ahead and warmed before eating. First up is a recipe for cheesy breadsticks that start with yeast dough. These garlic breadsticks are delicious by themselves or dipped in marinara sauce. For the second recipe only 4 ingredients are needed to make these tasty biscuits. Sour cream is mixed with Bisquick baking mix and then 7-Up is added in. The dough is brushed with melted butter and baked. The second breadstick recipe starts with frozen bread dough. The dough is thawed and rolled into ropes and then topped with melted butter and Parmesan cheese before baking. The last recipe is for homemade artisan bread, is it more involved but so worth the effort!

Dessert

For dessert I included a cake and two sweet snack options. First, the cake is a show stopping holiday dessert that is actually easy to make. Three layers of pumpkin cake are layered with vanilla cinnamon frosting and a streusel mixture. The first sweet snack starts with three types of chex cereal. A coating is made with a cooked mixture of brown sugar, butter and corn syrup. Then the cereal mixture is tossed with the coating and pecans. After cooling, melted chocolate is drizzled on top. The second sweet is a green snack perfect for upcoming holidays or anytime you want some pistachios. Butter, sweetened condensed milk and white chocolate chips are melted together. Then pistachio pudding mix is mixed in with vanilla and rice chex cereal. Once the cereal is coated, powdered sugar and chopped pistachios are added in.
