Steak Stroganoff

I stole this recipe for Steak Stroganoff from a cookbook called Taste of Home: Make Ahead Comfort Foods who stole it from Lisa Van Egmond from Annapolis, IL. This slow cooker recipe is easy to make for a weeknight or can be served as a Sunday dinner. Cubed steak, onion and sliced mushrooms are added to a slow cooker. Then chicken broth, cola, dry onion soup mix, garlic powder, parsley and pepper are mixed together and poured on top. After cooking for 7 hours, the beef and mushrooms are removed from the slow cooker. Next dry country gravy mix is added to a saucepan with all of the liquid from the slow cooker. Once thickened, sour cream is stirred in the pot. Then beef and mushrooms are added to the pot before serving over noodles.

Did you know? Stroganoff is named after 19th century Russian diplomat Count Paul Stroganov, this dish contains thin slices of beef, onions, mushrooms, all sautéed in butter and combined with a sour cream sauce.¹ (see more trivia in the Trivia tab)
