Crescent Lasagna

I stole this recipe for Crescent Lasagna from plainchicken.com. This delicious recipe tastes like traditional lasagna but is quicker and easier to make. Italian sausage is cooked in a skillet with tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic, salt and pepper. Then in a small bowl ricotta cheese, an egg and parsley are mixed together. Crescent roll dough is pressed into the bottom of a baking dish. Next the layers are made with mozzarella cheese, sauce and ricotta mixture, repeating once. Then another tube crescent dough is placed on top and brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. The dish is baked until the dough is golden brown. This yummy version of lasagna is a tasty Sunday dinner that you can share, but only if you want to.

The ingredients for this recipe are: 1 lb Italian sausage, 8 oz tomato sauce, 1 tbsp Italian seasoning, 1 tbsp minced garlic, 1 ½ cups ricotta cheese, 1 large egg, 2 tsp parsley, ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, 12 slices mozzarella cheese, 2 (8 oz ) cans crescent roll sheets and 1 tbsp olive oil

Brown Italian sausage in a large skillet, then drain any excess grease.

Then add the tomato sauce, Italian seasoning and minced garlic to the pan. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Simmer for 10 minutes and remove from the heat.

Next in a small bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg and dried parsley.

Mix well and set aside.

Spray a 9×13 baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Then press one can of crescent roll dough into the bottom and up the sides of the baking dish. Add half of the mozzarella cheese.

Next add half of the meat mixture and half of the Parmesan cheese.

Spread the ricotta cheese mixture over the meat filling.

Top with the remaining meat sauce. Add another layer of mozzarella cheese slices. Then add the second can of crescent roll dough and press edges to seal. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.

Bake at 350 F for 25 to 30 minutes, roll should be a deep golden brown.

Remove from oven and let it cool for a few minutes and slice.

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray a 9×13 baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.

Top with the remaining meat sauce. Add another layer of mozzarella cheese slices. Then add the second can of crescent roll dough and press edges to seal.
  6. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, roll should be a deep golden brown. Remove from oven and let it cool for a few minutes and slice.
