Buttery Breadsticks

I stole this recipe for Buttery Breadsticks from rhodesbakenserv.com. Frozen bread dough makes these breadsticks foolproof! The dough is thawed and rolled into ropes. Melted butter and Parmesan cheese are brushed on the dough ropes. Then the dough is left to rise before baking. This recipe is a tasty and easy way to make breadsticks at home.

“If drumsticks are for playing drums, you would think that breadsticks would be for playing bread, wouldn’t you? “Would you like some breadsticks?” “No, thank you, I don’t play bread. I play drums. Perhaps I’ll have a drum roll.”” – George Carlin, Comedian (see more quotes in the Quotes tab)

Thaw a 1 lb of Rhodes frozen bread loaf in a bowl sprayed with non-stick spray. (The original recipe called for 18 Rhodes yeast dinner rolls, but I already had the whole loaf in my freezer. So I used a whole loaf and cut it into pieces.)

Cut the dough into 18 pieces and roll each piece by hand into a 6 inch rope. Then place the breadsticks on an 11×17 inch sprayed (or lined) baking sheet.

In a small bowl melt ½ cup butter. Then brush the melted butter over the dough on the baking sheet. Next sprinkle the dough with 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese.

After sprinkling the cheese on the dough, sprinkle with some garlic salt. Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap. Let the breadsticks rise until double in size. (I recommend spraying the plastic wrap first.)

Remove the plastic wrap and bake in a 350 F oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve warm and enjoy with your favorite soup or stew!
