French Apple Pie

I stole this recipe for French Apple Pie from thespruceeats.com. This delicious fall pie starts with an unbaked pie shell (store bought or homemade). Then the filling is made with sliced apples, lemon juice, sugar, flour and cinnamon. Next the filling is placed in the pie shell, making a mound in the middle. A streusel topping is made with flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter. The streusel is sprinkled over the apples before baking until the apples are tender. A warm apple pie is a perfect way to show someone you love them.

The ingredients for this french apple pie are: 9 inch unbaked flour pie crust, 8 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples, 2 tbsp lemon juice, ½ cup granulated sugar, 3 tbsp AP flour, ½ tsp cinnamon, ⅔ cup AP flour, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ tsp cinnamon and 5 tbsp cold butter

Preheat oven to 425 F. In a large bowl, place the apple slices and sprinkle with lemon juice.

Then in a small bowl, mix together ½ cup sugar, 3 tbsp flour and ½ tsp cinnamon. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the apples and toss to coat.

Spoon the apple mixture into an unbaked pie crust, mounding the apples in the center of the pie shell.

Next in a medium bowl combine the ⅔ cup flour, brown sugar, ½ tsp cinnamon and butter until crumbly.

Sprinkle the streusel over the apples in the crust.

Bake for 12 minutes. Reduce the oven to 350 F. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork and the juices are bubbling in the center of the pie.

Cool the pie on a wire rack. Then slice and serve, with ice cream if desired.
