I stole this recipe for White Cheddar Shells from Tasteofhome.com who stole it from Steven Schend from Grand Rapids, MI. This easy to make pasta side dish is a fancy version of macaroni and cheese. The cheese sauce starts with butter and flour in a saucepan. Then milk and pepper are added and cooked until thickened. Next three types of cheese are added: shredded white cheddar, provolone and Parmesan cheese. Once all the cheeses are melted, then cooked pasta shells are stirred into the sauce. For this recipe you’ll definitely need to make some stops in the cheese aisle.
The ingredients for this recipe are: 3 ½ cups uncooked medium pasta shells, ¼ cup butter, ¼ cup AP flour, 2 ½ cups milk, ¼ tsp pepper, 2 cups shredded white cheddar cheese or mozzarella, 4 slices white American cheese, chopped and ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat; whisk in flour until smooth.
Whisk in the milk and pepper. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Then stir in the cheeses.
Stir until the cheeses have melted then stir in cooked and drained pasta.
Gently stir until the shells are coated with the cheese sauce.
Serve and enjoy, I serve this pasta as a side dish for Crockpot Chicken Parmesan Sliders.
