Garlic Bread Pizza Crust

I stole this recipe for Garlic Bread Pizza Crust from howsweeteats.com. This homemade pizza started with herb seasoned dough. After the dough rises butter and garlic is brushed on the dough. Then sauce and cheese is added before baking. More butter is melted and brushed on the cooked crust edges, before sprinkling with Parmesan cheese. A delicious homemade (or handmade) pizza recipe!

September 5th is National Cheese Pizza Day and using Garlic Bread Pizza Crust to make cheese pizza is a great way to celebrate (to see more Food Holidays see the National Food Holidays category or look at the Food Holiday Calendar).

In a large bowl add in 2 ½ cups flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp garlic powder and 1 tsp dried basil.

Then in a large measuring cup combine 1 ⅛ cups warm water, 3 tsp active dry yeast, 1 ½ tbsp honey and 1 ½ tbsp olive oil. Mix with a spoon, let it sit until foamy, about 10 minutes.

Next, add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture.

Stir the mixture together with a spoon until the dough comes together but it is still sticky. Using you hands, form the dough into a ball and work the additional ½ cup flour into the dough, kneading on a floured surface for a few minutes. (Or use an electric mixer with a dough attachment.)

Rub a bowl with olive oil then place the dough inside, turning to coat. Cover with a towel and place in a warm place to rise for 1 ½ hours.

Preheat oven to 375 F. After the dough has risen, punch it down. Then form the dough into desired shape on pan. Place the towel back over the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Melt 3 tbsp butter; mix with garlic and 1 tbsp Parmesan cheese. Next, brush the butter mixture on the edges of the pizza.

Spread pizza sauce on the crust and sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 23-25 minutes or until crust and cheese are both golden.

Melt 2 tbsp butter; mix with 1 tbsp Parmesan cheese. Brush the edges of the cooked pizza. Slice and enjoy!
