Sheet Pan Philly Cheese Steak

I stole this recipe for Sheet Pan Philly Cheese Steak from eazypeazymealz.com. This is a one pan meal! Flank steak is placed in the middle and surrounded with onions, peppers and mushrooms. After cooking, the steak is thinly sliced. The steak slices and vegetables are covered with cheese and baked until melted. Then everything is stuffed into a roll to make your very own Sheet Pan Philly Cheese Steak.

Did you know? Philadelphia Cheese Steak is a sandwich made on a French or Italian roll topped by thin slices of beef, cheese and sometimes sautéed onions. It was originated in Philadelphia in the 1930s.¹ (see more trivia in the Trivia tab)

Place 1 ¼ lb flank steak in a large plastic bag; add salt, pepper, 1 tbsp Worcestershire, 1 tbsp olive oil and I also add 1 tbsp Montreal steak seasoning mix. Refrigerate for at least one hour to marinate.

Chop 1 cup mushrooms and slice 1 cup yellow onions and 1 cup green peppers.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Place flank steak on baking tray. In a bowl combine peppers, onions, mushrooms, ½ tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp Worcestershire, salt and pepper. Stir to combine. Dump vegetables around outside of flank steak, on the tray.

Bake 15 minutes. Then broil 3-5 minutes.

Take flank steak off tray, rest 10 minutes.

Slice steak very thin. Add back to tray.

Cover the meat and veggies with 8 slices provolone cheese. Bake 5-7 minutes at 350 F.

Stir to combine. Add to hoagies, season with salt and pepper.

Recipe Notes

I marinate the steak first. Place the steak in a large plastic bag; add salt, pepper, Worcestershire, oil and I also add 1 tbsp Montreal steak seasoning mix. Refrigerate for at least one hour to marinate. Line the baking sheet with parchment or foil; I can’t stress how important this is! The Worcestershire sauce burns off in the oven and will destroy your baking sheet if it is not lined. The Worcestershire sauce soaked through my parchment near the end of the cooking, I was able to clean the pan, but without it being lined it would have been too burned to clean. You can make sandwiches without onions and peppers. Cook some mushrooms with salt, pepper, oil and Worcestershire sauce on the stovetop while meat is cooking in the oven. Don’t stir the meat and vegetables together. When making sandwiches, place vegetable choice or no veggies on the bread, then top with meat.
