Holiday Snickerdoodles

I stole this recipe for Holiday Snickerdoodles from a cookbook called Christmas Cookie Swap! More Than 100 Treats to Share This Holiday Season. These festive cookies are a perfect start to the holiday baking season. Flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and cinnamon are mixed together in a bowl. Then in another bowl butter and sugar are creamed together, before adding eggs and the flour mixture. Next the dough is rolled into balls. The dough balls are rolled in a mixture of sanding sugar and cinnamon. Then the cookies are baked until set. You watch the dough balls cook into flat sugar cinnamon coated cookies.

Stir together 2 ¾ cup flour, 1 ½ tsp cream of tartar, 1 tsp baking soda, ¼ tsp salt and 1 tsp cinnamon. Then in a separate bowl, beat 1 cup butter and 1 ⅓ cup granulated sugar at medium speed with the mixer until light and fluffy.

Next beat in 2 eggs.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture.

Beat at low speed until blended.

Stir together ½ cup green and red sanding sugar and 1 tsp of the cinnamon in a small bowl.

Shape the dough into 1 ¼ inch balls. Roll the dough balls in the sugar mixture. Place on parchment lined baking sheets 2 inches apart.

Bake at 400 F for 12 to 14 minutes or until set.

Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
