Soft Pretzel Bites

I stole this recipe for Soft Pretzel Bites from delish.com. These pretzel bites are easy to make using canned biscuit dough. Each biscuit dough piece is cut into quarters and rolled into a ball. Then the dough balls are quickly boiled in a baking soda and water mixture. Next the dough is transferred to a baking sheet and brushed with a beaten egg and sprinkled with salt. The pretzels are baked until golden brown. Using the canned biscuit dough saves a lot of time instead of making a yeast dough, perfect for when you want to make a snack instead of buying one.

The ingredients to make these pretzel bites are: 16.3 oz can refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits), 4 cups water, ¼ cup baking soda, 1 egg and coarse salt. (I also included the recipe for a cheese sauce below.)

Preheat the oven to 425 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Then quarter each biscuit dough piece.

Next roll each quarter piece of dough into a ball and set aside.

In medium saucepan, combine the water and baking soda. Bring to a boil then reduce to simmer. Then add a few dough balls at a time and cook for 30 seconds, will float to top. Don’t overcrowd the pot, only put a few in at a time.

Next remove with slotted spoon, shaking off excess water and transfer to the prepared baking sheet. Brush with a beaten egg and then sprinkle with coarse salt.

Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Enjoy warm from the oven as is or with mustard or cheese!
