Classic Chinese Chow Mein

I stole this recipe for Classic Chinese Chow Mein from dinnerthendessert.com. This delicious Chinese recipe can be an entrée or side dish. Cabbage is cooked in a skillet until wilted. Then garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce and water are added to the pan. Next chow mein noodles are added. Everything is tossed together to make sure the noodles are coated before serving. Since this recipe is easy to make, it can be made quickly when dinner is in a rush.

Heat a large pan or work on high heat. Add 2 tbsp oil to the pan and add ¼ head of thinly sliced cabbage. Or a bag of coleslaw mix can be used.

Cook 2 to 3 minutes until wilted, add 2 cloves of garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds. Then add 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sweet soy sauce, 4 tbsp oyster sauce and 1 cup water and bring to a boil for 1 minute.

Next add 12 oz chow mein noodles cooked and drained.

Toss well to coat.

Serve immediately.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ¼ head of cabbage thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic crushed and mined
  • 2 tbsp sweet soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 12 oz chow mein noodles cooked 1 minute shy of directions
  • 6 oz bean sprouts
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat a large pan or work on high heat.
  2. Add 2 tbsp oil to the pan and add the cabbage.
  3. Cook 2 to 3 minutes until wilted, add the garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  4. Add the soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce and water and bring to a boil for 1 minute.
  5. Add the pasta and bean sprouts, toss to coat.
  6. Serve immediately.
