Cheese Bread

I stole this recipe for Cheese Bread from bellyfull.net. This delicious bread tastes just like Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits and perfect with a fall soup or stew. First flour, sugar, baking powder and salt are mixed together in a bowl. Then shredded cheddar cheese is added to bowl and stirred until the cheese is coated. Milk and egg is added to mixture with melted butter, then the dough is placed in a loaf pan. While the bread is baking a topping is made with melted butter, garlic powder, salt, onion powder and parsley. The topping is brushed on the bread when it is removed from the oven. Making this bread at home is better than buying store bought bread.

The ingredients for this recipe are: 1 ¾ cup AP flour, 1 tbsp granulated sugar, 1 tbsp baking powder, ½ tsp salt, 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese, 1 cup whole milk, 1 egg, ½ cup butter, ¼ tsp garlic powder, ⅛ tsp salt, pinch onion powder and a pinch dried parsley

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt until combined. Then add in the cheddar cheese.

Stir it together so the cheese is coated with the flour mixture. Set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.

Next pour into the dry mixture and stir it until just combined (a few dry spots are okay). Add in the melted butter and mix it in until everything is combined and there are no dry patches.

Pour the mixture into a loaf pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray and smooth out the top.

Bake at 350 F for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

While the bread is baking, make the topping: whisk together melted butter, garlic powder, salt, onion powder and parsley.

Remove loaf pan from the oven and set on a wire rack to cool slightly. Immediately brush the bread with the butter topping.

Let the bread cool for 5 minutes in the pan then take it out of the pan and cool completely on the wire rack.

Slice and serve.
