Brownie Batter Puppy Chow

I stole this recipe for Brownie Batter Puppy Chow from freshaprilflours.com. This recipe is a perfect after school snack. Brown sugar, granulated sugar and cocoa powder are mixed together in a bowl. Then chopped chocolate is melted in a microwave. Next the melted chocolate is poured over Chocolate Chex cereal and stirred to coat the cereal. Sprinkles and the sugar mixture is poured over the cereal and mixed to coat. Then powdered sugar is added and the mixture is tossed to coat. The coated cereal is spread onto a lined baking sheet to cool. This recipe is a delicious option after you eat your vegetables.

The ingredients for this recipe are: 12.8 oz box (362 grams) Chocolate Chex cereal, ½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar, ⅓ cup granulated sugar, ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, ⅔ cup chocolate sprinkles and ¼ cup powdered sugar

Pour the cereal into a large bowl and set aside.

Then in a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, granulated sugar and cocoa powder. Set aside.

Place the chocolate in a small microwave safe bowl. Heat in microwave for 20 seconds on HIGH, stir and heat again as necessary in 20-second increments until completely melted.

Immediately pour melted chocolate over cereal and stir gently to coat.

Pour the cereal into a large zip-top bag or large container with a tight-fitting lid and add the sprinkles. Shake until all of the sprinkles are evenly dispersed. Add the sugar and cocoa mixture and shake again until everything is coated.

Then add the powdered sugar and shake one more time until everything is coated.

At this time, you can add chopped walnuts to melted chocolate and add to the mixture.

Spread onto baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper and allow to cool.

Recipe Notes

If unable to find Chocolate Chex cereal, 8 cups of regular Rice Chex or other crisp rice cereal can be used.
