Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

For this tasty potato recipe, first you have to thinly slice potatoes. Then the potatoes are staggering in a baking dish with onions. After seasoning with salt and pepper, a sauce is made. Butter is melted in a saucepan, and then flour, salt and milk are added in before mixing in shredded cheese. The cheese sauce is poured over the potatoes and onions. Next the dish is covered in foil and baked.

Ingredients

  • 4 russet potatoes sliced into ¼ inch slices
  • 1 onion sliced into rings
  • Salt / pepper
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
  2. Butter 8x8 casserole dish.
  3. Arrange potatoes and onions in the prepared baking dish, staggering potato then onion.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Mix in the flour and salt, stir constantly with a whisk for 1 minute. Stir in milk. Cook until mixture has thickened.
  6. Stir in cheese all at once and continue stirring until melted and smooth, about 30 to 60 seconds.
  7. Pour cheese over the potatoes and cover the dish with foil.
  8. Bake 1 ½ hours in preheated oven.
  9. For a crisper topping, broil for 5 minutes.
