Beer Battered Shrimp

This delicious shrimp recipe comes right off the product box. McCormick Golden Dipt Beer Batter mix is combined with garlic powder and red pepper before adding beer, water or club soda. Then peeled shrimp is dipped into the batter and fried. Frozen and thawed shrimp or fresh shrimp can be used. This recipe is a delicious appetizer or a main dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Beer Batter Mix
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp ground red pepper
  • cup beer or water
  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Pour oil into deep fryer, large heavy skillet or saucepan, filling no more than ⅓ full. Heat oil to 375 F on medium heat.
  2. Stir Batter Mix, garlic powder and red pepper in medium bowl until mixed. Add beer or water and mix until smooth.
  3. Dip shrimp into batter, shake off excess. Carefully add several pieces at a time to the hot oil.
  4. Fry 3 to 5 minutes, turning once to brown evenly, until shrimp is golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve with cocktail sauce.

Recipe Notes

I use club soda instead of water. Cook the shrimp 2 minutes per side.
