Red, White & Blue M&M’s Cookie Bars

These cookies are a perfect dessert for 4th of July. First butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar are mixed with eggs and vanilla. Then flour, baking soda and salt are added. Next chocolate chips and red, white & blue M&M’s are folded into the batter. The batter is spread into a baking dish and baked. After cooling the bars are removed from the pan and drizzled with red and blue candy melts for decoration.

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups AP flour
  • ¾ tsp baking soda
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups red white & blue M&M’s plus more for topping
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips plus more for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. Line a 9x13 baking dish with foil, leave some overhang to remove easily. Spray generously with cooking spray.
  3. In a bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add in eggs and vanilla and continue to beat.
  5. Lower speed and add flour, baking soda and salt and mix until combined.
  6. Fold in M&M’s and chocolate chips.
  7. Transfer cookie dough to prepared dish.
  8. Press additional M&M’s and mini chocolate chips into top of dough.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  10. Let cool completely and remove from pan and cut.
