Circus Animal Puppy Chow

Rice Chex cereal is placed in a large bowl, then melted white chocolate is drizzled on top. Next the cereal is mixed to coat with the chocolate before adding sprinkles and crushed animal cookies. Powdered sugar is added in last, then the cereal is tossed to evenly coat with the powdered sugar. Large chopped pieces of frosted animal crackers are added to the mixture and then melted pink frosting is drizzled over the whole mixture.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups Chex rice cereal squares
  • 2 ½ cups frosted circus animal cookies divided
  • 6 oz white candy melts
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup rainbow nonpareils

Pink Frosting

  • cup white chocolate chips
  • Red food coloring gel

Instructions

  1. Place the chex cereal in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Crush 1 ½ cups of the frosted circus animal cookies until fine crumbs in a food processor or pound in a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin.
  3. Chop or crush the remaining animal cookies in larger pieces, set aside.
  4. In another mixing bowl, melt the white chocolate candy melts according to package instructions. Pour the melted chocolate over the cereal and use a spatula to mix evenly.
  5. Coat the mixture with the circus animal cookie crumbs and sprinkles. Follow with powdered sugar. To evenly coat you can shake in a Ziploc bag or large Tupperware container.
  6. Stir in the remaining chopped circus animal cookies. Serve as is or decorate with pink frosting.

Frosting

  1. Spread the cereal mix onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Melt ⅓ cup of the melting chips according to the package directions. Drizzle across the puppy chow and let set.
  2. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week at room temperature or up to 2 to 3 months in the freezer.

Recipe Notes

Pink candy melts can be substituted for the pink frosting.
