Cinnamon Swirl Bread

This sweet bread is tasty treat for breakfast or a snack. Flour, sugar, baking soda and salt mixed together in a bowl. Then buttermilk, egg and oil and added to the dry ingredients. Next half of the batter is poured into a loaf pan. A mixture of cinnamon sugar is sprinkled on top. Then the process is repeated with the rest of the batter and more cinnamon sugar. Cut through the batter with a knife before baking. After cooling a glaze is drizzled on top before serving.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups AP flour
  • 1 ½ cups sugar divided
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Glaze:

  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ to 2 tsp whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease the bottom only of a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, 1 cup sugar, baking soda and salt.
  3. Combine buttermilk, egg and oil in a separate bowl. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
  4. In a small bowl combine cinnamon and ½ cup sugar.
  5. Pour half of the batter into the pan and sprinkle with half of the cinnamon sugar.
  6. Add the remaining batter and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon sugar; cut through batter with a knife to swirl.
  7. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar and milk. Drizzle over loaf.
