Cinnamon French Toast Sticks

These French toast sticks are a fun breakfast treat. First the crusts are removed from slices of bread, then each slice is cut into 3 pieces. Next eggs, milk, vanilla and salt are mixed together in a bowl. The sticks of bread are dipped into the egg mixture, then cooked in a skillet. After cooking until golden the hot sticks are rolled in a cinnamon sugar mixture. These delicious cinnamon French toast sticks can be served with syrup for dunking.

Ingredients

  • 4 thick slices white bread preferable stale
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Salt
  • cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon sugar
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Remove the crust from each slide, then cut each into 3 thick batons.
  2. Combine the eggs, milk, vanilla and a pinch of salt in a large bowl.
  3. Combine the cinnamon and sugar on a plate.
  4. Melt 2 tbsp butter in a large pan over medium high heat.
  5. Roll the sticks in the egg mixture quickly, shake off the excess and place in pan. Cook in batches.
  6. Turn to cook each side until golden.
  7. Immediately transfer to the plate with the cinnamon sugar and roll to coat. Do this quickly while they are hot.
  8. Melt remaining butter and cook the remaining sticks.
  9. Serve with syrup to dunk the sticks in.
