Baked Brie en Croûte

This fancy looking appetizer is actually very easy to make. First frozen puff pastry is defrosted. Then butter is melted in a saucepan and chopped pecans are sautéed until golden brown before adding cinnamon to the nuts. Brie is placed in the center of the puff pastry and topped with the pecan mixture. Brown sugar is sprinkled on top before closing the puff pastry around the brie. Then this appetizer is baked until golden and served with crackers.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Thawing Time 15 minutes
Servings 8 people

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • tsp ground cinnamon
  • 8 to 14 oz wheel Brie
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Crackers and sliced apples for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Defrost puff pastry for approximately 15 to 20 minutes by laying it out at room temperature. Once it has defrosted, unfold it.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté the pecans in the butter until golden brown, approximately 5 minutes. Add the cinnamon and stir until pecans are coated well.
  3. Lay the puff pastry flat on a parchment lined baking sheet. Place the brie in the center of the pastry. Then place the pecan mixture on top of the brie and sprinkle the brown sugar over the mixture.
  4. Gather up the sides of pastry, pressing it around the brie and gather at the top. Fold and pinch the edges together so it doesn’t come open. Brush the beaten egg over the top and side of pastry.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
  6. Serve with crackers and sliced apples.

Recipe Notes

I drizzle honey on top of the brown sugar before closing the puff pastry.
