Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks

Panko breadcrumbs are mixed with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Then flour is placed in a separate bowl and then whisked eggs are placed in a third bowl. Mozzarella string cheese sticks are cut in half. Next the sticks are dipped in the flour, then the eggs and lastly in the breadcrumb mixture. The coated sticks are placed in the basket of an air fryer. Then they are cooked until golden brown and crispy.

Ingredients

  • 8 mozzarella string cheese
  • ¼ cup AP flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • cup marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Unwrap and cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half. Add the flour to a bowl. Whisk the eggs together in second bowl. In a third bowl combine the panko breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  2. Dredge the mozzarella sticks in flour, then dunk in the beaten eggs, then roll in the breadcrumb mixture. Place them on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Place the baking sheet on a level surface and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 390 F. Brush the mozzarella stick with olive oil or olive oil cooking spray. Place in the air fryer with a space between sticks. Cook for 5 minutes or until they are brown and crispy. Serve with dipping sauce.

Recipe Notes

For extra crispy sticks, dip them one more time in the eggs then in the breadcrumbs a second time. Increase the breadcrumbs to 1 ¼ cups and eggs to 3 total.

Freeze for up to 3 months before cooking.
